Additional information

Issued as part of New Zealand's Universal Studios King Kong promotional series tied to Peter Jackson's 2005 film production, which was shot entirely in Wellington. The Reserve Bank authorised a run of legal-tender collectibles capitalising on the film's local significance — Jackson had lobbied successfully to keep the entire production in New Zealand, making it at the time one of the most expensive films ever made at roughly $207 million USD.

The aluminium bronze composition matches the circulating dollar but these were never intended for general use.
