The "I Love Her Jewel Sea" dollar belongs to Perth Mint's long-running series of novelty issues using pad printing — a technique borrowed from industrial manufacturing that transfers ink onto curved metal surfaces via a silicone pad. Perth adopted it to produce multicolor effects impossible through traditional enameling at this scale and price point. The process is durable enough for collector handling but not intended to survive circulation.
