Obverse description Effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, after the Ian Rank-Broadley fourth portrait, rendered in miniature and superimposed over the full polychrome depiction of the 1912 Australian Coat of Arms as granted by King George V. The heraldic shield, supported by a kangaroo and an emu, is reproduced in vivid color using pad-printing technique against a dark field. The legend 'ELIZABETH II ONE DOLLAR' and the date '2008' appear in the outer legend, with the Perth Mint 'P' mintmark also present.

Additional information

Issued to mark the centenary of Australian federation's consolidation of state heraldry into a unified national arms, this piece was struck by the Perth Mint using pad printing — a process borrowed from industrial manufacturing that applies color via a silicone transfer pad rather than enamel or cloisonné. The technique was still relatively novel in numismatic applications at the time, and early Perth Mint colored issues from this period attracted collector debate over long-term pigment durability.
