The "Bush Babies" series was produced by the Perth Mint as a collector-targeted release aimed primarily at the international gift market, capitalizing on sustained overseas demand for Australian wildlife themes following the long-running success of the RAM's regular kangaroo dollar. The aluminium bronze composition here is identical to that of the circulating dollar, but these were never intended for the till.
KM#1576 is one of four designs in the 2011 series, the others featuring a koala, a platypus, and a wombat joey.
