| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II as the fourth portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. The legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 1 DOLLAR arcs around the upper field, with the engraver's initials IRB positioned below the portrait truncation. The design is executed in high relief against a polished field, characteristic of Perth Mint bullion issues. |

Perth Mint launched the Wedge-Tailed Eagle silver bullion series in 2014, positioning it directly against the Canadian Maple Leaf and American Eagle in the global bullion market. The .9999 fineness was a deliberate commercial decision — four nines purity was, at the time, still uncommon among major sovereign bullion programs and gave Perth a technical edge in marketing to Asian buyers, particularly in China and Singapore where purity premiums carry real weight.
The 2018 issue falls under Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, which had been in use since 1998 and would be replaced on Australian coinage in 2019.
