Additional information

Australia's long-running commemorative dollar program produced this piece to mark the Australian Open, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments and the first of the calendar year. The "pad printed" designation is the notable technical point here — a process applied to the coin's surface using a silicone stamp to deposit ink or colour in a way standard dies cannot achieve, introduced by the Royal Australian Mint in the early 2000s to expand what was possible on proof issues without sacrificing the underlying silver strike.
