Obverse description The fourth portrait effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right, depicted with a girlande tiara and wearing a necklace, rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished field. The engraver's initials 'IRB' appear incuse below the truncation of the bust. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs across the upper field and 'AUSTRALIA' continues to the right, while the denomination '1 DOLLAR' is inscribed along the lower border, all separated by raised dot stops. The design is framed by a fine beaded inner border and a broad milled rim.

Reverse description A highly detailed depiction of a laughing kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) perched on a eucalyptus branch occupies the central field, shown in three-quarter view facing left with beak open, its distinctive plumage rendered with exceptional engraving detail. A large eucalyptus branch with jagged bark rises prominently to the right of the bird, while sprigs of eucalyptus foliage appear in the lower left field. The mintmark 'P20' is inscribed in small letters below the branch in the lower central field. The surrounding legend reads 'THE AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA' in the upper arc and '1 OZ 999 SILVER' to the right, with the date '2009' at the base, all separated by raised dot stops and framed by a beaded inner border.
