| Reverse description | Two kangaroos in full bound are depicted in high relief against a stylised outback landscape, with sweeping curved lines evoking rolling terrain and a large sun disc positioned in the upper centre of the field. The larger kangaroo leaps prominently in the foreground, with a smaller kangaroo bounding behind and below. The designer's initials 'NH' appear to the lower left, and the Perth Mint 'P' mintmark is situated to the right. The arc legend 'AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO' runs along the upper border, while the inscription '2018 1oz 9999 SILVER' appears in the lower exergue. |

The Australian Silver Kangaroo series launched in 2016, giving the Perth Mint a direct competitor to its own Lunar and Kookaburra programs — an unusual internal market decision driven by the global bullion coin boom and sustained demand from Asian investment markets, particularly China. The .9999 fineness pushed it a step above the long-running Kookaburra's .999 standard, a deliberate specification chosen to match the purity benchmark set by the Canadian Maple Leaf.
The 2018 issue was struck during the final year of Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth-portrait obverse before its phased retirement across Commonwealth coinage.
