Issued to mark the centenary of the Australian Army, which was formally established on 1 March 1901 — the same year Federation created the Commonwealth itself. The Army and the nation are effectively the same age, a coincidence the Royal Australian Mint leaned into heavily across its 2001 commemorative program.
