The Alphabet Collection was issued by the Royal Australian Mint across 2015–2017 as a 26-coin circulating series aimed squarely at children, each dollar pairing a letter with an animal or object relevant to Australian life. The pad-printing process — a technique borrowed from industrial manufacturing — allowed colour to be applied directly to circulating coinage without the use of a capsule or insert, something the RAM had been refining for years before this series made it routine on dollar coins.
