Issued to mark the 90th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings, this coin appeared during a period of intense public debate in New Zealand and Australia over the commercialization of ANZAC commemoration — government mints in both countries had been criticized through the 1990s for overproducing collector pieces tied to the campaign.
