| Reverse description | The central device, adapted from the design of the 1954 Australian florin by engraver W.L. Bowles, depicts a gold-plated compositive figure of a lion passant with a kangaroo mounted upon its back, both rendered in high relief and selectively gold-plated against a frosted silver field. The legend AUSTRALIA FLORIN arcs boldly around the upper periphery in capital letters, with the engraver's initials W.L.B. incused below the central device. The commemorative date range 1954 - 2004 appears in the lower field, marking the 50th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's first royal visit to Australia. A beaded border frames the entire design. |
