Reverse description The reverse depicts John King, the sole survivor of the ill-fated Burke and Wills Expedition of 1860-61, shown seated in a weakened posture beneath the famous Dig Tree, a large coolabah tree on the banks of Cooper Creek whose gnarled trunk and spreading branches dominate the composition. Footprint motifs are scattered across the left field, symbolising the arduous journey undertaken by the expedition members. The denomination 1 DOLLAR appears in the upper left field, and the commemorative legend 150th ANNIVERSARY BURKE & WILLS EXPEDITION curves along the right and lower periphery.
