Released to mark the centenary of scouting's founding by Robert Baden-Powell, whose experimental camp on Brownsea Island in 1907 is treated as the movement's origin point. New Zealand's Scout Association had grown into one of the more active national branches in the Commonwealth by the time this coin appeared, though the "100 Years of Adventure" branding was a worldwide commemorative theme, not a uniquely New Zealand framing.
