Obverse description Third crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, modelled by Raphael Maklouf, depicting the Queen wearing the King George IV State Diadem and draped robes. The legend ELIZABETH II NEW ZEALAND arcs around the upper periphery, followed by the engraver's initials RDM, with the date 1987 positioned at the lower field. Maklouf's portrait renders the Queen in a refined, idealized manner characteristic of his coinage designs produced for Commonwealth nations during the 1980s.
