The Kookaburra bullion series, launched in 1990, was Perth Mint's direct answer to the Canadian Maple Leaf and American Eagle programs then dominating the international silver bullion market. Each year carries a new reverse design — a deliberate sales strategy to drive collector demand on top of bullion value, ensuring coins rarely returned to the melt pot regardless of spot prices.
The 1994–95 issue falls under Australia's then-current fiscal year dating convention, which frequently confuses date collectors unfamiliar with the practice.
