Additional information

Pitcairn's coinage exists almost entirely outside circulation — the island's population has hovered below 50 in recent decades, making any domestic monetary economy largely theoretical. These coins are produced for collector export, with New Zealand dollars handling the island's actual transactions. The 3rd portrait of Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf, phased out by most Commonwealth mints around 1998, persisted on Pitcairn issues years longer than nearly anywhere else.
