Obverse description The coat of arms of Sierra Leone occupies the central field, depicting a shield supported by two lions rampant, flanked by palm trees, with a crowned lion passant at the shield's crest and a scroll bearing the national motto below. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE arcs along the upper periphery, with the motto UNITY FREEDOM JUSTICE implied within the arms device. The date 1997 appears in the lower field beneath the shield. A fine beaded border runs along the inner rim.
