Additional information

Liberia's 1990s commemorative dollar program was one of the more prolific novelty series of the decade, issuing hundreds of types under licensing arrangements that had little connection to Liberian monetary policy or circulation. These pieces were struck almost exclusively for the collector and souvenir market, distributed internationally rather than domestically, and were never intended to function as currency within Liberia itself.

Davy Crockett died at the Alamo in March 1836. His inclusion here reflects the era's appetite for American folk heroes on foreign legal tender — a formula that sold well at gift shops and through mail-order catalogs throughout the 1990s.
