Somalia's late-2000s wildlife dollar series was a straightforward bullion-adjacent novelty program, struck under licensing arrangements rather than through any Somali monetary institution with functional authority. The Federal Republic of Somalia had no operational central bank capable of managing coin issuance at this time, and these pieces were produced almost entirely for the collector market by private minting contractors — Pobjoy Mint handled several issues in this series.
The cougar, native to the Americas, has no geographic or cultural connection to Somalia whatsoever.
