Obverse description The obverse features a central device of a sundial with a gnomon casting a shadow, symbolizing the passage of time, surmounted by a radiant sun with emanating rays in the upper left field. Beneath the sundial, in two lines within an oval cartouche, appears the motto MIND YOUR BUSINESS, a maxim attributed to Benjamin Franklin. To the left of the sundial the word FUGIO is inscribed, referencing the Latin for 'I fly,' reinforcing the theme of fleeting time. The entire central device is enclosed within a double-ring border. The outer legend reads CONTINENTAL CURRENCY around the upper arc, with the date 1776 positioned along the lower arc.
