| Obverse description | The obverse depicts the Rothschild Fabergé Egg shown in an open, cross-sectioned view, revealing the intricate gilt brass clockwork mechanism within the upper half and a pink guilloché-enamelled lower shell mounted on a white and gold pedestal base set with a single brilliant-cut diamond. A coloured mechanical cockerel automaton perches atop the exposed clockwork, and a white enamel clock dial with Roman numerals is affixed to the front of the mechanism. The central composition is framed by an elaborately engraved symmetrical acanthus scroll border in high relief against a polished black field, with a horizontal gilt band dividing the lower portion of the design. |
