Additional information

Niue has operated as a prolific licensed coin issuer since the 1990s, effectively functioning as a mint-program vehicle for foreign distributors rather than a sovereign currency authority in any practical sense. Coins of this type are struck for the collector market and will not circulate — Niue's actual transactional economy runs on the New Zealand dollar.

Charles III's effigy appears on Niue issues following the standard Commonwealth transition after Elizabeth II's death in September 2022, the first major update to Commonwealth coinage obverses in seventy years.
