Château de Chambord was built under Francis I beginning in 1519, though he spent fewer than forty nights there across his entire reign. The castle was never finished to his original vision, and its famous double-helix staircase — often attributed, without firm documentation, to Leonardo da Vinci — remains one of the more contentious attribution debates in architectural history.
