Obverse description Central to the obverse is a small inset effigy of King Charles III facing left, engraved after the portrait by Martin Jennings, surrounded by a circular legend reading ONE DOLLAR · CHARLES III · COOK ISLANDS. Flanking the effigy are stylized elements of the American flag — a star-spangled blue canton to the left and billowing red and white stripes to the right — rendered in high relief against a polished field. The upper portion of the field bears the bold incuse inscription UNCOMMON VALOR WAS A COMMON VIRTUE arranged in four lines, framed by a ring of thirteen five-pointed stars along the inner border. The left and right periphery carry the additional legends SEMPER FIDELIS and 1OZ .9999 AG respectively.
