Niue has operated as a nominal coin-issuing authority since 1987, licensing its name to foreign mints — primarily the Perth Mint and various European producers — for collector pieces that never circulate on the island. The "Angel of Faith" belongs to a filigree series in which a separately fabricated openwork silver insert is set into a recessed field of the main planchet, a technique requiring two distinct manufacturing stages and precise tolerancing to seat cleanly.
