Additional information

Australia's dollar coin has featured a kangaroo mob reverse since Stuart Devlin designed it for decimal introduction in 1966, but the obverse tells a different story here. Charles III's effigy replaced Elizabeth II's following her death in September 2022 — the first change to the Australian dollar's obverse in seventy years of the coin's design history. The Royal Australian Mint moved quickly, with Charles III portrait coins entering circulation in 2023.
