The Perth Mint has issued annual Christmas dollar coins since 2001, typically released through retail channels and holiday gift packaging rather than through the Reserve Bank of Australia's standard circulation routes. Pad printing — a process borrowed from industrial product decoration — allows full-colour detail on the coin surface without enamel inlay, keeping production costs low enough for a seasonal novelty issue. This is among the first Perth Mint Christmas releases to carry the effigy of Charles III following his accession in 2022.
