Australia's aluminium bronze dollar has carried native fauna since the denomination's introduction in 1984, but the echidna's place in that rotation is periodically revisited rather than fixed — making any given echidna dollar a snapshot of a specific production decision rather than an annual constant. This 2025 issue is also among the first circulation dollars to carry the Pawluk effigy of Charles III, which replaced the Jody Clark portrait used on transitional 2023–24 issues following the accession.
