Obverse description Uncrowned right-facing effigy of King Charles III, the first official portrait of the monarch for Australian coinage, modelled by engraver Dan Thorne. The king is depicted in a contemporary draped bust style, wearing a suit and tie. The legend CHARLES III curves along the upper left periphery and AUSTRALIA along the upper right, with the denomination 1 DOLLAR arcing along the lower field, flanked by two raised dots. The engraver's initials DT appear in small relief at the lower right of the portrait.
