| Reverse description | The olive-green reverse centres on a large circular vignette of the Sarawak state arms surrounded by radiating guilloche work, surmounted by the inscription THE GOVERNMENT OF SARAWAK. Two ornate oval medallions bearing the numeral 1 flank the central device at upper left and upper right, supported by elaborate torch-bearing pillar motifs in intaglio. Oval guilloche rosettes at lower left and lower right carry the bilingual denomination inscriptions ONE and SATU respectively. |

Sarawak under the Brooke Rajahs was one of the last privately governed territories in the British Empire — not a colony, but a personal domain. Charles Vyner Brooke, the third and final White Rajah, had ruled since 1917, and the 1935 series was issued during a period of relative stability before Japanese occupation in 1941 effectively ended Brooke rule for good. The territory never returned to the family; Vyner ceded Sarawak to the British Crown in 1946.
Bradbury Wilkinson printed the note at New Malden. E.D. Sherriff's signature as Treasurer appears on all examples of this type.
