Obverse description	Two topless mermaids, each wearing a floral wreath crown and displaying fish-scale tails, are depicted facing one another in the central field, each holding a trident upright at their outer side. The figures are rendered in high relief against a polished field, with stylized ocean waves below. The upper arc bears the legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU 1998, and the denomination 1$ appears in the lower field, all enclosed within a beaded border.

Reverse description	The entire field is covered by a fine engine-turned guilloche pattern of concentric, interlocking diamond-shaped lozenges radiating from the center, creating a deeply textured surface. A horizontal rectangular cartouche with a polished, mirror-like background is placed across the center of the field, bearing the inscriptions ESSAI and 1 Oz .999 in two lines. A beaded border runs along the inner edge of the reeded rim.
