Obverse description The obverse displays the coat of arms of Sierra Leone in high relief at the centre, featuring two lions rampant as supporters flanking a shield, with two palm trees rising behind. A scroll below the shield bears the national motto in the legend UNITY FREEDOM JUSTICE. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE arcs across the upper field, while the date 2022 is inscribed at the bottom. A fine beaded border frames the entire design, and the Pobjoy Mint privy mark appears at the lower left.

Additional information

Sierra Leone has issued commemorative dollar series targeting the collector market since the early 2000s, with wildlife themes among the most frequently produced. The "Big Five" framing is borrowed from East and Southern African safari tradition — none of the five animals in that classic grouping (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino) is a giraffe, which has never been part of it. The inclusion here reflects marketing latitude rather than zoological convention.
