Obverse description Central field displays the coat of arms of the Republic of Palau within an ornate shield-shaped cartouche, depicting Neptune seated with a trident, accompanied by a mermaid, a treasure chest, and waves, with a crescent moon and star above. A traditional Palauan canoe appears above the shield in the upper field. The legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU curves along the upper periphery, flanked by eight stars evenly distributed around the border. The inscription RAINBOW'S END appears on a scroll at the base of the shield, with the denomination 1$ in the lower field.

Additional information

Palau has issued commemorative dollars under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, producing hundreds of portrait issues with no connection to Palauan history — Montgomery never set foot in the Pacific theater. These silver-plated copper pieces are collector novelties rather than circulating currency, struck in large quantities for the souvenir market.
