Obverse description The concave obverse, designed by Justin Kunz, presents a dynamic high-relief composition depicting three basketball players — a standing male player at left, a female player at center, and a wheelchair athlete at lower right — all reaching upward toward a basketball at the apex of the design. A basketball net fills the background field, serving as a unifying visual element across the curved surface. The legend LIBERTY arcs along the upper rim in bold block lettering, while IN GOD WE TRUST is inscribed vertically along the right border. The date 2020 and the Philadelphia Mint mark P appear in the lower central field, with the engraver's initials JK visible at the left.

Reverse description The convex reverse, designed by Donna Weaver, features a bold close-up rendering of a basketball occupying nearly the entire field, its pebbled leather texture and characteristic seam lines rendered in exceptional relief on the domed surface. The lower portion of the design shows the rim and flowing net of a basketball hoop, through which the ball appears to be passing. The circumferential legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA · E PLURIBUS UNUM · ONE DOLLAR runs along the raised border. The engraver's initials DW appear in the lower central field, with the sculptor-engraver's initials PM also present near the lower right.
