Obverse description The obverse, engraved by John M. Mercanti, depicts two sprinters in dynamic mid-stride relief against a stylized track background with horizontal lane lines and lane numbers (2 through 5) rendered in the right field. The five-ring Olympic symbol appears prominently in the upper field beneath the legend 'USA', evoking the spirit of athletic competition. To the left of the runners, the inscriptions 'LIBERTY' and 'XXVI OLYMPIAD' are incused within the track field. The motto 'IN GOD WE TRUST' and the date '1995' are inscribed along the lower rim, with the engraver's initials 'JM' visible in the lower left field.

Reverse description The reverse, engraved by Thomas James Ferrell, features two outstretched hands engaged in a baton exchange at the lower half of the coin, rendered in detailed high relief to convey the urgency of a relay race handoff. Above the hands, the official Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games logo — comprising the five interlocked rings surmounted by a flaming torch and three stars — occupies the central field, flanked by the inscriptions 'E Pluribus Unum' to the left and 'Atlanta' to the right, with the centennial numeral '100' below the rings. The legend 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' curves along the upper rim, and the denomination 'ONE DOLLAR' is inscribed along the lower rim. The mint mark appears at the base of the central device, with the engraver's initials visible in the lower field.
