Mercanti, depicts two sprinters in dynamic mid-stride relief against a stylized track background with horizontal lane lines and lane numbers (2 through 5) rendered in the right field. The five-ring Olympic symbol appears prominently in the upper field beneath the legend 'USA', evoking the spirit of athletic competition. To the left of the runners, the inscriptions 'LIBERTY' and 'XXVI OLYMPIAD' are incused within the track field.
