Obverse description The obverse depicts a Paralympic wheelchair athlete in dynamic motion, competing in a track and field event, rendered in high relief against a plain field. The word 'SPIRIT' appears inscribed in Braille dots below the central figure, accompanied by the official Paralympics logo. The peripheral legend reads TRIUMPH OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT and LIBERTY, flanking the date 1996 separated by a star. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST appears within the field, and the inscription PARALYMPICS is also present. The design was engraved by James C. Sharpe in a bold, expressive style befitting the commemorative subject.
