| Reverse description | The reverse, engraved by Joseph Menna, features a central wreath of oak branches bound with a ribbon, encircling an open space that carries the commemorative legend honoring disabled defenders of freedom. A forget-me-not flower, historically associated with disabled veterans of World War I, is depicted at the base of the wreath. The legend TAKE THIS MOMENT TO HONOR OUR DISABLED DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM is incorporated within the ribbon and wreath design. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR appear along the periphery, with E PLURIBUS UNUM completing the standard reverse legends. |

Authorized under the American Veterans Disabled for Life Commemorative Coin Act of 2008, this issue directed surcharges from each sale to the American Veterans Disabled for Life Memorial Fund in Washington, D.C. The memorial itself wasn't dedicated until October 2014, meaning this coin preceded the completed monument by four years. Mintage was capped at 350,000 across proof and uncirculated strikes combined.
