Louisiana's innovation dollar recognizes the development of the supercomputer, crediting work at Tulane and Louisiana State University. The American Innovation dollar series, authorized under the American Innovation $1 Coin Act of 2018, assigns one coin per state and territory in the order of ratification or admission — Louisiana, admitted in 1812, falls relatively early in the sequence.
These coins are struck in both circulation and collector finishes but see almost no actual commerce; the public's indifference to dollar coins in daily transactions has been consistent since the Sacagawea program launched in 2000.
