Obverse description The national coat of arms of Liberia occupies the central field, depicting a sailing ship on the sea, a plough and a spade in the foreground, and a palm tree with a rising sun on the right, all within a shield surmounted by a dove in flight. The shield is flanked by decorative scrollwork. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, with the motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE inscribed on a ribbon within the design. The date 2001 is divided across the lower left and right fields, and the denomination 1 DOLLAR appears along the bottom, with REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA repeated beneath the shield.

Additional information

Liberia has issued commemorative dollars under licensing arrangements since the 1990s, producing pieces for the international collector market rather than domestic circulation. The 75th birthday series was one of dozens of topical issues released that year targeting Commonwealth-interest buyers — this piece never saw a cash register in Monrovia.
