Obverse description The obverse bears a stylised depiction of the Zimbabwe Bird, the national emblem, rendered in profile and facing left atop a stepped pedestal. This iconic soapstone carving, dating to the 12th–14th century, was excavated from the ruins of Great Zimbabwe and is associated with the Gokomere-Shona cultural tradition. The legend ZIMBABWE arcs along the upper periphery, with the date of issue placed in the lower field. The design is executed in a clean, sculptural relief typical of mid-20th-century Commonwealth coinage.
