| Obverse description | Three-quarter right-facing portrait bust of President William R. Tolbert Jr. wearing a traditional African kufi cap, rendered in high relief against a polished field. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs across the upper periphery in bold raised Latin letters, while the inscription W.R.TOLBERT JR. curves along the lower periphery. Two five-pointed stars flank the portrait at the mid-field, serving as decorative separators between the upper and lower legends. The engraving, by Michael Rizzello, displays fine sculptural modeling of the subject's facial features and attire. |
