| Obverse description | The obverse displays the coat of arms of the Republic of Palau centrally positioned within the rhombus-shaped flan. The arms depict a shield bearing the figure of Neptune holding a trident, accompanied by a mermaid amid stylized waves, with a celestial star above. A traditional Palauan canoe appears above the shield. Eight five-pointed stars are arranged in an arc flanking the central device. Phil Hill remains the only American-born driver to win the Formula 1 World Championship, taking the title in 1961 with Ferrari — a victory shadowed by the death of his teammate Wolfgang von Trips in a collision at Monza that same season, a crash that also killed 15 spectators.
