Disney Dollars were a privately issued scrip accepted at Disney theme parks, resorts, and retail stores — legal under U.S. law because they function as store credit rather than currency. The 1999 series was among the later issues before Disney briefly suspended the program; it was permanently discontinued in May 2016, after which unredeemed notes became collectibles with no cash-out option.
The Scrooge McDuck treasurer signature had appeared on Disney Dollars since the 1987 inaugural series — a consistent in-joke given that the character's entire fictional identity is built around hoarding wealth rather than spending it.
