Comments

Disney Dollars were introduced in 1987 as a proprietary currency redeemable at face value throughout Disney parks and resorts — a cashless spending mechanism dressed up as a souvenir. The program ran until 2016, when Disney quietly discontinued it, reportedly because the rising secondary market value of certain issues was encouraging hoarding over redemption, undermining the original point.

The 2002 series was printed on cotton-blend paper by Crane & Co., the same supplier used for U.S. Federal Reserve notes, giving the bills a tactile authenticity that contributed directly to their collectibility.
