The Zayed Rashid Bin Humaid Award recognizes achievement in camel racing, one of the few traditional Bedouin competitions that survived rapid modernization in the UAE and was formalized into a structured competitive institution under federal patronage. This commemorative was issued the same year the UAE's camel racing regulatory framework was being consolidated, partly in response to international criticism over the use of child jockeys — a practice that would eventually be banned outright in 2005.
