Reverse description Central field displays four horizontal lines of Kufic Arabic legend within a plain inner circle, with the ruler's name Ya'la ibn Ahmad and the dynastic attribution Banu Ifran prominently placed in the upper lines, followed by the Quranic verse of Sura al-Tawba (9:33). A marginal legend in Kufic script runs around the outer border within a double linear frame. The die work is consistent with the hammered coinage tradition of tenth-century Sijilmasa, with bold raised lettering and an irregularly shaped flan.
