Obverse description Central field contains the Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) inscribed in multiple lines of Kufic Arabic script within a plain inner circle, enclosed by a dotted border and a scalloped outer margin. The legend reads the declaration of the unity of God and the prophethood of Muhammad. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and rough fabric typical of hammered Islamic silver dirhams of the late 10th century.
