Obverse description Hammered silver dirham with a central field bearing the Islamic declaration of faith in multiple lines of angular Kufic script. The inner marginal legend, executed in Kufic, records the mint name Hawsam and the AH date 352. The outer marginal legend carries the Quranic verse of mission (Quran 9:33) in a continuous circular band. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, characteristic of hand-struck Islamic silver coinage of the mid-fourth century AH.
