Ibrahim ibn Abdallah's revolt against the Abbasid caliph al-Mansur in 762 CE was one of the most serious challenges the early Abbasid dynasty faced — a direct Alid counter-claim to caliphal legitimacy rooted in the aftermath of the Kufan rebellion of his brother Muhammad al-Nafs al-Zakiyya. Ibrahim seized Basra and held it long enough to strike his own coinage, an act of explicit political authority in the Islamic numismatic tradition. The rebellion collapsed within months at the Battle of Bakhamra, where Ibrahim was killed.
Coins struck in his name are among the rarest products of any Alid uprising.
